Me and the babies

Chad took this picture of me and the kids on Sunday. Notice how tall Elijah is and how grown up everyone looks. Time just keeps creeping by!

Cute Little House!

Even though I am frustrated with our new little "project" inside our house, (read below, good people!) after I mowed the yard today, I beamed with pride. We have worked so hard on our home and things are really starting to come together. My peonies are going crazy, our grass looks gorgeous, our landscaping is finally coming together, the pool water is getting bluer (and warmer) each day.... I just had to take some pictures.

It was a beautiful day and I think that is reflected in these pictures. Enjoy!

More redecorating!!!

AAARRRGGG! This house of ours is sometimes more than we can deal with! For those of you that own a house, you know that it is wonderful having a place of your own however.... there are also a lot of angst and frustration in owning your house too. Repairs, remodels, updating... and this house of ours hasn't been the easiest.

We have owned our home for almost six years. We have completely gutted, remodeled, redone, repainted, refloored, resurfaced, (any "re" word you can think of, we've probably done!) the entire house. There isn't any room in our house that hasn't been touched. AND..much of the stuff in our house wasn't done correctly or was done in such a cheap way to make it look done that it takes us twice as long to fix it the right way. Add to that the fact that the house is over 100 years old and ...well there you have it.

We were getting ready to take up the linoleum in the laundry/back bathroom and tile the floor. After we bought our house, we noticed that the shower was leaking. Chad fixed it however what we didn't know was that it had been leaking for quite a while before that. Chad pulls up the linoleum to see that the sub floor is rotted under the toilet and the shower. SO...Chad rips that up and immediately sees that part of the support under the shower and the toilet has also rotted. ON TOP OF THAT...the support beam under the shower, the toilet, AND the washer and dryer had been cut and not re-attached. Basically you push on it with your hand and it would sway. Nice!

SO..since we had all that to do, we decided to remodel our bathroom. It is becomming a much bigger job than we had hoped (moving drains, electrical, drywalling, tiling, installing new shower and sink) but once it's done it will be marvelous! I'm very excited.

However, I probably won't have a washer or dryer available for at least another week so tomorrow we are heading over to mom's house to do a few loads of laundry. *sigh* I will be glad when this project is finished!

Here are some before shots:

Good Times with Good Friends

Nikki Byron came home for a visit this past week. Nikki is the first dance teacher Elijah ever had. She taught him tap and he absolutely loved her!

To back up a little bit....

I first met Nikki when she was three years old and I was asked to babysit her and her little sister while her parents went out for the evening. Her little sister cried the entire night. Needless to say...I wasn't asked back to babysit for them again.

Fast forward about ten years. My sister Libby becomes close friends with Nikki and ends up having many sleepovers and parties with Nikki.

Fast forward another six years or so. Nikki begins teaching my son tap at The Performance Academy. There began Elijah's love for dance. Nikki helped instill in Elijah the dedication to the thing he loves most - - - dance. Elijah competed in tap under Nikki's direction to one of his favorite dances; Newsies. I do want to mention that Elijah's love and respect for Nikki created his first ever crush. Nikki was absolutely sweet with Elijah and handled his admiration like a class act. Thanks, Nikki for handling my son's heart with such gentle hands.

Nikki has moved on. She is twenty five now and lives in Florida. In August, she will be moving to California to go to seminary and do an internship with Mosaic in LA. She's very excited.

This is a picture of Elijah with Nikki. Nikki was shocked to see how much Elijah had grown and how he was now taller than her. It was pretty emotional. Elijah has so much respect and love for Nikki and he was thrilled to spend some time with her before her big move to Los Angeles.

We will be praying for Nikki during this time of transition and know God will richly bless her for following the plan He has for her life.

A Visit with Laura

Sunday was a good day. My close friend Laura Lund came home for a visit. While I try to talk or email Laura as much as possible, we don't get to visit much. I think the last time we had gotten to spend any length of time together was about eight years ago! YIKES! Now that I've figured that up....I feel like a horrible friend! Sorry Laura!

Anyway, we had a great time! Laura brought her two children over (her daughter is a month older than Sydney...they had such fun playing together!) and we cooked out and got to visit. Laura and I laughed so much. I even pulled out a box of stuff from high school and there were tons of notes and pictures from our last two years at Delta. (Were we really that silly back then?) We talked about proms, sleepovers, old boyfriends and the whole "why didn't I date him longer? he was such a great guy" conversation. Such fun!

Hopefully I'll get to see Laura again in a few weeks when she comes home again for a wedding. I'm looking forward to spending some more time with her.

This is for Laura. Thanks for being my friend through the good and the not so good! I love ya girl!

Dance Competitions!

Elijah is such an amazing hip hop dancer. I know I am very partial because he's my son and I'm his mother and I love him... blah blah blah! Whatever! He's just so talented and he loves doing it.

I love the competition season. Even though it's busy and hetic and requires lots of driving back and forth, standing, waiting, watching, cheering, emotion....I love it all. I love watching all the hard work that Elijah's group has put into practices come out on stage. I love his facial expressions on stage. I love seeing him totally rock the stage knowing he is loving every single second of the performance.

Elijah's group has won Platinum and two high Golds this year. They have done amazing. Congratulations to Elijah and the rest of his hip hop group. Fantastic Job.

These pictures were taken today at Rising Star competition in Indy. These are just a few shots of Elijah in action. Enjoy!

Our Wii - A Limerick by Christy May

Ohhhhh how we love our Wii!
We play it continuously
We get up and move
And get on our groove
We can't live without it, you see!

Mother's Day

Mother's Day was good this year. We ended up having everyone to our house for dinner. By everyone....I literally mean E-V-E-R-Y-O-N-E! I think we ended up having 22 people over. It was crazy! Not very relaxing....lots of cleaning and preparing but the end result was hanging out with my family and visiting with them.
Our lives are so busy we don't ever get to all hang out together except for holidays. It's sad but all of our kids are pre-teens and teens and they are all very active. Needless to say when we do get together, we make it count. Lots of laughter and good times.

Oh a lighter note, kind of a funny story. Bear with me. Usually Chad buys me two hanging baskets of flowers for the front porch. While I love the flowers, it's a gift that has always bummed me out a little. I'm not trying to sound ungrateful however.... even if Mother's Day didn't happen, we would still buy hanging baskets for the front porch. I have never told Chad how much I didn't enjoy this gift because I didn't want to hurt his feelings. THIS YEAR... I tried to by sly and cunning and decided upon a "James Bond sort of ploy." (Insert evil laughter here) I decided to buy flowers this year while I was out running some miscellaneous errands and bought the coolest hanging baskets myself! I got home, hung them on the porch and then invited Chad out to have a look-see. He looked at the baskets, then looked at me, and then back at the baskets. "Uh, honey....?" (Here it comes...wait for it...wait for it....) "You bought hanging baskets for the porch."

"Uh huh," I reply. "Aren't they pretty?"

"Yes. But, um... I always buy you hanging baskets for Mother's Day."

(Inside I'm jumping for joy.) "Oh! That's right! (sigh deeply) Well, you'll have to get me something else this year, I guess." (And the Grammy for Best Planned-Out Performance goes to.......)

SO..this year Chad got me this gorgeous mult-stone bracelet. I love it so much. You can kind of see it in the picture. I love it because it has all of our birthstones in it. It's just so pretty.

So, even though Chad was disappointed for a millesecond, even he agrees that it worked out better. I think he understands about the hanging basket situation now. Even though he was a bit shocked when it happened.

I know there are two pictures of me (I rarely post pictures of myself...blech!) but my brother for some reason took numerous shots of me. I'm not sure why. After awhile, I got tired of the flashes and gave him a good shot. That ended it all!
